Yep i agree curiosity is human nature, but quan stated that "we shld not discuss abt things tt r facts, cos it wun affect us" This statement by itself is very wrong. Why do u think there are religions? Why do u think there is the existence of science? Its all because of humans trying to derive their purpose here on earth and these are the ways deployed to find it. And where do u think tis urge of deriving purpose comes from? Of course, its the human brain. Thus, how is it in anyway possible that things like that WUN AFFECT US? People die because of "my god is better than ur god" in this pathetic world in the past and the tension stretches all the way to now. We study science in school because of this very desire to know, to assure, to be enlightened. This is definitely something thats got to do with us.
Moving on to my next point, quan mentioned that "No matter what is the answer, it wun affect any of us" regarding the question of Cause and Effect. Cause and Effect may be equal to free will from a certain perspective, however something that fundamental will absolutely affect us in subtle ways. We may not be able to totally feel it. Why do people seek resolve in these questions? Because it will help us humans in decision-making better. If we were to someday unlock the puzzle governing the chains of events and influnces that ultimately cause our actions, we may be able to change the world for the better(or the worse).
Best of all, quan said that "If u become enlightened, how wud it help in ur exams?" My sentiments exactly. A perfect evidence of human redundancy manifesting in the form of examinations. No, but we are forced to go through all these nonsense when even the things they teach and the way they test is a mug-and-score basis(yeah i noe the system is shifting but tis is still the case for our batch at least)
In conclusion, these fundamental questions will definitely affect us. I believe many people are still enmeshed in the quintessential illusionary blinkers that the human society has put over us. That it is just good enough to eat sleep study get a degree get a gd job retire and die. Is that really satisfactory? And about intelligence, its another dumb human defintion, we could live better without guaging one another.
*Well, if you dun like me to post questions of large magnitude, i wun do it again. but then seeing this is a philosophy blog and used to "poemnize" people, if we dun touch a little bit on real philosophy but other things, ie human relations, all day we might as well change the name of this blog right?=D
**I forgot to mention that the views expressed are that of an extremist and none of mine

All i hav to say - very long
yoyo im tired of writing perfect english..so i will now anyhow write.
1st of all, I dun agree tt our brain is a curse. Curiousity is just human nature. As a philosopher, u always ask urself ques and try to find the ans. B4 u find the ans, did u ask urself, how will the ans change u? y did u ask tt ques in the 1st place? In my opinion, we shld nt discuss abt things tt r facts, coz it wun affect us. For example, Cause & Effect Vs Free Will, professional philosophers may argue abt the ans to tt ques, but will it affect us? Not me, at least. If ur brain is a curse, save urself by nt using it.
2ndly, I would lik to say tt shengyu and GongZi cnt argue abt perspective as they hav different basis of comparison. Sheng tinks tt what most ppl tink is right is right and GongZi tinks tt right depends on wat u r comparing on. They will not reach an agreement BCOZ i cnt realli explain it... Anw sheng y u disagree with GongZi, u used to agree tt sumthing is dirty coz of relativity. its the same theory with perspective.
If u tink tt u r tinking too much, ask urself how will the ans change u, short term and long term. If u become enlightened, will it help in ur exams? No, but it will change u in the long run, so tink abt the ques when u r free. Anyway in my opinion, CAUSE can be free will so as the EFFECT. Therefore, cause and effect= free will. No matter wat is the ans, it wun affect any of us.
Since i hav written so much, i shall write more. How do u determine intelligence? I tink tt i hav the ability to analyse who is intelligent and who is not. I always tink tt easiest way to determine who is smart is how fast a person learns. Of course watever i said may be wrong. I might even be the stupidiest person in Singapore. But im juz expressing my view. Can a person's exam results determine his intelligence? There are 2 ways (or more) to view this matter..some ppl may tink tt a person who study all day long and score well for the exam may not be smart, but on the other hand, 'smart' may means the ability to force urself to study. Intelligence is different from self discipline? To most ppl, intelligence means the power of the brain. And power of the brain means the ability to use ur brain to control urself. So tink again, is intelligence different from self discipline?
Lets use practical examples (no offense) to see from another point of view..
Is ZhiHao smart? He may hav been one of the most regular top scoring guy in our sch, but some ppl tink tt its coz he is very hardworking. He does his homework everyday, and he revises regularly. But with my experience with him, he learns pretty fast. So according to my above definition of intelligence, he is smart. In this case, he fulfills both explanation of being smart, he learns fast and he controls himself to study well. We may tink tt its safe to conclude tt he is smart, but his other actions may be prove us wrong. He does not, lik us curious ppl who tinks a lot, tinks a abt philosophies and any other things other than his studies. He does not wish to change his bring lifestyle. It seems tt he does not tink much. So is he still a smart person? Generally without saying, we will take it tt smart ppl hav good analysing and thinking ability. The person whom we hav safely concluded to be smart does not seem so smart afterall. So how do we determine intelligence.
Whatever i said is juz my opinion, so obviously there is no scientific evidence to prove them. I hope to discuss abt these using pure brain power, so dun go search the internet and crush me with all those science.

First of all, sheng's argument is flawed. Shengyu stated "True, but these 'rights' and 'wrongs' are the most suitable not only for us, but everyone else" This shows that sheng agrees that rights and wrongs are merely human definitions and guided by the majority as we are all familiar with "majority wins". This supports Gongzi's theory of "there is only perspective". Yep thats right, in a way u can say that the common perspective of 50.00001% of the population can be considered the "right thing" by standards of human defintion. This can be further by supported by sy's own statement, "Whatever suits the big picture is CORRECT". From this statement, we know that sy is in support of a definite CORRECT. However the point is this basis of correctness is once again derived from human perspectives, albeit a few million ones. Thus we can quite safely assume that there is no such thing as a definite RIGHT. I shall quote enstein once again that "There is no definite reference frames and things are always relative to each other". Hence the correctness sy proposes can be defined as correct relative to normal human standards. But remember, humans ARE NOT the definite so once again this supports Gong's theory of no definite rights and wrongs.
Secondly, Sy stated that "We have an innate ability to differentiate right and wrong" OR do we really? I put to you the question that What if we humans right from the start are put in a hostile environment and taught that u must kill to survive? Over time, even if we DO have this innate ability, it will dilute and corrupt as the descendants of humans made to live in hostile ways will have genes that have no trace of kindness and empathy but genes modified to survive. Thus, this shows that the innate nature of humans(as with all animals) adapt to the surroundings in ways deemed best and changes as a result. Our nature is determined by the surroundings we are brought up in and this agains once prove that the rights and wrongs that stem from our upbringing is not definite as it contains too many variables.
Sidenote: The brain is a curse to all humans, wasting time and effort to ponder over philosophy. Though it is unfamothable what if we were given a chance to lose our brains? To don't know that we are going to don't know. Will that simplicity bring joy? Nvm.

An Extremist View on Human Existence
"With great power comes great responsbility"--Spiderman acted by this quote and even claim that his so-called gifted powers is a curse. Human beings are not much different from spiderman. After all, we are the animals that we proclaim that possess intellect, speak language and build civilisation. Thus, the question is, is our human brain a gift or a curse?
Taking on an extremist view, the human brain that each and everyone(?) of us possess is a downright curse. With respect to the issue on perspective, I agree that there is no definite rights and wrongs. Proof? Enstein once said that there is no definite reference frames and things are in relative to each other. Anyway, in a world with no rights and wrongs, there will be no examinations (weeee!) and other nonsense. But no, humans have to complicate matters for themselves. Utlising their self-proclaimed intellect, they put sense into things, they build civilisation, they form rules(that they think are beneficial which is once again just human definition) in which all must comply or you are considered as a oddballish deviant. Why so much trouble? All because we have a thinking brain. This implants the cursed sentience and consciousness in us which in turn inducts the sense of superioty over other creatures.
Because of this, human beings just simply cannot accept the fact that when they die, they just die and cease existing. Do other animals ever think about their afterlife and their current purpose in life? Maybe. Eat. Shit. Sleep. Just because we have the cursed thinking brain, humans have to create something to assure and guard their insecurities. Poof! Birth of many religions, not to mention the constant "my God is better than yours dispute" And just because that we think, we just assume that we are very very very very (very...) special and we cannot juz cease existance just like that. Human beings are obstinate creatures that feel that they have an ultimate divine purpose in their lives. The reason being that we ARE BORN with a thinking brain that differs from other animals. And hence, humans invent things to kill their brain cells with, science and mathematics, which in fact are just mere theories of humans trying to fit sense into the world.
You might say Earth is a tough neighbourhood and its survival of the fittest that humans under selective evolution choose to develop their brains. Studies have also shown that the chimpanzee's DNA is 98% identical to that of a human. Their brain functions the same way as us do. The only thing that they are incapable of is coherent speech. If not, chimps could very well possible campaign against the PAP too. Some people might say again that language is a defining factor of being a human. This brings us to another example of redundant human complexity. The purpose of language is to communicate. So long as people understand our context, language has served its purpose. Then again, why do people put rules to govern language ie. grammer?
In conclusion, i think that humans have become too complex for their own good. We are the only animals that have headaches caused by our own creations and complications. And the (bloody) O lvls is another fine example of dumb human redundancy. We could have a longer average lifespan if not for all these nonsense. The brain is a curse, as its thirst for answers and assurance cannot be quenched and thus we suffer

i dun agree with james
Firstly... We were taught to judge many things the way adults, or society , or environment want us to. True, but these 'rights' and 'wrongs' are the most suitable for not only us, but everyone else. Like bringing handphones to school, it does not disrupt our studies as we may think, but what if they are stolen, the school is responsible. Thus an equilibrium must be established between both parties; these 'rights' and 'wrongs' must be implemented. Whatever suits the big picture is CORRECT.
Secondly... Is stealing wrong? YES. Is stealing because your whole family is starving wrong? YES too.
Regardless of perspectives, we know that it is wrong, it is a crime. We cannot say that because the man's family is dying, commiting a crime is right. Because by doing so, he is not doing justice to the 'rich guy'. Within us, we know what is morally right or wrong, these moral values are not taught and need not be taught. I shall quote from the three character jin, "ren zhi chu, xing ben shan". it means that everyone was born kind-hearted. We have an innate abililty to differentiate right from wrong, and it applies regardless of scenarios.

"There is no right, there is no wrong, there is only perspective." A famous quote from Final Fantasy by Cloud. It is ALL about people's perspectives and points of view. Things were never classifed specifically as 'right' or 'wrong'. Basically, this applies to everything such as a person's looks or even the law. Generally, the "correct" things that we were taught to do are things that seems to be right as most people believed in and also if it's rational and is justified. For example: students bringing handphones to school may see such actions justified as they are not using it for any negative purposes, but only to serve as a tool of communication. However, the school may argue that such communication devices is redundent for the students as there is no or little need for such devices at such time and place. To such scenarios, where the subject is controlversial, i believe that noone should be deem as completely as "wrong" as it is up to the perpective of the person affected.
*An addition comment: I forgot to say that religions and culture shape the mind of people and do influence the perpective of people

He is truly an idiot, bringing laughter to his peers with his unintelligent acts. He is blind, to all the flaws of his friends. He is simple, a good friend to have by everyone. He is like a soft iron, easily pleased and easily pissed. He seems brainless, for he is open to peers' ideas. He is truly an idiot, who at times, does not know what he is doing.
